2009 APS Fantasy of Lights Boat Parade Award Winners
Congratulations to the four Boat Parade winners: Best of Show, Best Motorized, Best Human-Powered, and Kids’ Choice.
There were eight judges (three children and five adult judges). Two seven-year-olds and one ten-year old judged Kids' Choice. Title Sponsor APS provided two judges, a prominent Mill Avenue District landowner and local historian participated, and the Miss America Pageant provided Miss Arizona, Miss Grand Canyon, and Miss Arizona Outstanding Teen as judges.
Best of Show ($500): #12 - Mark Faucher & Bob Gawry, Glendale, AZ
Their 16' pontoon boat featured all renewable power resources, with the theme "Up, Up & Away." Articulated hot air baloons appeared to float around the boat and captivated everyone's imagination.
Best Motorized ($200): #5 - Eric Brown, Mesa, AZ
Eric's 21' pontoon featured a "Southwest Christmas"
Best Human-Powered ($200): #43 - Emily Heller, Tempe, AZ
Emily's 44-foot rowing barge celebrated Tempe Town Lake's 10th Anniversary, wishing the lake Happy Birthday from "Chicks With Sticks"
Kids Choice ($100): #7 - Paul & Debra Castaldo, Scottsdale, AZ
The Castaldo's 18' poontoon used about 1500 LED lights, featuring Santa and his elves relaxing on the lake, fishing before the big day.
Everyone who participated was a winner who delighted the crowd and participated in the most unique holiday tradition in the Valley of the Sun! Your imaginations visually delighted the 35,000 spectators gathered to watch the parade. We hope to see you all again next year---and tell your boater friends, too!
2010 Boat Parade - Look for next year's application online mid-summer, as well as an email blast that will be sent to everyone who participated.
