Tempe, AZ—Good things are popping at Centerpoint on Mill, with the recent opening of Poppa Maize, featuring 26 flavors of “a-Maize-ing things with popcorn.” Roy Wilson and his partner Qiana Shaw offer homemade recipes inspired by everyone’s favorite flavors, with a twist. Their palate-pleasing selection runs the gamut from Savory White Cheddar and Cake Batter to Chocolate Peanut Butter, Caramel Apple, Pineapple-Jalapeno and more.
Prices range from $1.29 for a snack size bag to $6.29 for a large bag. “For popcorn lovers with a real sweet tooth, we’ve created Popparoons, delicious cookies made with popcorn flour, coconut, chocolate, walnuts and caramel,” Wilson said. “Snack lovers will definitely want to mark their calendars for our Grand Opening celebration on Monday, May 2.”
Poppa Maize was the winner of Downtown Tempe Community’s Mill Avenue Retail Competition, and is open directly north of MADCAP Theaters at 730 S. Mill Avenue, Suite 102, Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. For more, visit www.poppamaize.com.
Mellow Mushroom is also now open at 7th Street and Mill Avenue. Established in 1974, every Mellow pizza is made to order using hand-tossed pizza dough derived from fresh Georgia spring water. The new 8,000 square-foot restaurant features five distinct eating areas, including an outdoor patio and bar. “In addition to fabulous food, our Tempe location represents one of the largest collections of graffiti (street) art in one place,” said Jay Beskind, owner. “Nine unique paintings include a large scale original work behind the bar, a 33 foot-long mural, as well as 35 original skateboard decks, created by 12 of the country’s most recognized graffiti artists.”
The extensive Mellow menu caters to Tempe college students, office professionals, families and sports fans with a vast collection of pizzas, calzones, salads, deli hoagies and munchies, as well as 48 ice cold craft beers on tap and over 100 varieties in stock. “For the lunch crowd, we have a choice of nine different meals for just $5.99, including three 8” pizzas, salads or sandwiches with chips,” Beskind said. “Our Happy Hour runs from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, featuring alcoholic beverages and munchies at half price. And we have Reverse Happy Hour every day from 10 p.m. to closing, with half price alcoholic beverages.”
Mellow Mushroom is open until 2 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday and 3 a.m. on weekends for late night noshing. Patrons parking in the Ash garage will have their tickets validated. Visit www.mellowmushroom.com for complete menu and details.
