Thanks to a million dollar renovation, the Harkins Valley Art Theatre was recently restored to its former glory, and Tempe now has a refurbished historical landmark to enjoy. The theatre blends old decor with modern amenities, such as comfy rocker chairs, THX louder-than-life audio and an award-winning concession stand. There's also a stage for poetry readings, music, stand-up comedy and other events. Harkins has wisely retained the Valley Art's classic "one big room with one big screen" set up, making it a rarity here. It's an ideal venue to see foreign, independent, historic and artistic films.
